It’s easy to get caught up in the hype around food that comes from just about every angle. “Eat this every day and you’ll be smarter!” “Don’t eat this one thing and the unwanted pounds will melt away.” “Doctor prescribed diet? Buy our products to fulfill the cravings that are driving you nuts!”

The truth is that fad diets usually lead to health problems rather than answers. And the “special” treats in shiny happy packages that are marketed to those of us on special diets … tend to taste like cardboard. Yuck!

In 2012 I finally got the answers to my most chronic health problems and it turned out I had allergies to a number of ubiquitous foods. By the end of that year I had gone from “what can I eat?!?!” to joining a lunch meeting without breaking a sweat. (And it was during a new job interview, no less.)

Since then, the food on my table has gotten even better.
